PCNA MANDATE

  • To provide urban and rural communities with opportunities to explore the effective use of technology applications in learning, capacity building, and economic development.
     
  • To examine issues of access to technology for rural communities, First Nations, people with disabilities, youth, New Canadians, Francophone communities, the unemployed, and seniors.  The objective of this examination is to expand and strengthen effective use of Information and Communications Technology for citizen and community development.
     
  • To promote community networking initiatives in rural and urban communities throughout British Columbia and the Yukon which are designed to increase local economic and social capital by encouraging traditional and media literacy, support the transition to an “Information Economy,” increase competitiveness in technology-driven job sectors, foster entrepreneurship, and support e-government initiatives, among other initiatives.
     
  • To provide support for existing community network organizations within British Columbia and the Yukon and to encourage the establishment of new networks.
     
  • To advocate for equitable and affordable access to electronic information and network services.
     
  • To facilitate public education and awareness of the issues surrounding access to information and network services.
